Essential Camping Supplies for Japan
Following the horrendous damage that Northern Japan has gone through, people were seen to be living in tents. Camping supplies are generally the same no matter which country you decide to camp in, however, Japan is one of four seasons meaning you might have to prepare camping supplies that will get you through the coldest of winters to the hottest of summers. Despite being a disaster that struck in spring, the weather proved to be unsteady as snow started falling down one day, and sunshine was apparent the next.
For those affected by the earthquake and tsunami, daily camping supply should include the most basic items to provide comfort away from their homes as they try to rebuild their life back again. It will take a long time and comfort should be a must despite their desperate situation. Camping can be fun if you have the right and quality equipments.
A camper needs to have a camping check-list before stepping out to go out for camping. Camping sometimes takes place in the remote areas of any place. Camping materials include outdoor furniture (these include items like seats, tables, cooking ware and plates); tents (should be strong enough and water poof to be able to with stand any weather); backpacks for carrying the necessary items while walking, should be large enough to carry the required items; sleeping bags (should be comfortable as camping involves sleeping on the ground). Sanitary around a campsite should be taken seriously so as to avoid any disease breakout.
Some of the equipments of camping facilities to consider having are portable toilet; sanitary equipments and if out camping in the bush you need a hoe to help you in preparing the camping grounds. Campers need to be able to dig a compost pit. This will be able to help keep wild animals or even flies away that might be ravaging for left overs of food.
Buying Camping Goods in Tokyo
If like many people living in Japan, the idea of camping and or hiking is appealing to you. Then you will probably need to get yourself some equipment. Unless of course you came to Japan with your own gear, but perhaps this could be helpful for picking up a few extras.
If you have spent any time in Tokyo, you will know just how large this city is. You could spend hours walking, taking the subway, or riding on a bus wandering around trying to find a specific kind of shop in any area can be difficult and time consuming. Which is not much use if you are a tourist with limited time to spend.
So here I will give you a few locations where you can purchase equipment for a camping holiday.
One of the easiest to find is the L-Breath store in Shinjuku. Start from the South Exit of Shinjuku Station, walk down the stairs, the is a large green pachinko building near the bottom of the stairs. You want to turn right and walk through an underpass the L-Breath shop should be the first thing you see once you reach the other side. Since you are already in the area you might want to also check out the Tokyu Hands nearby, as they might have some goods you are looking for. To get there continuing walking down the same street you were on to get to L-Breath. You will see the huge Takashimaya building on your right hand side, keep walking along pavement until it curves to the right and you will be at the Tokyu Hands, there should be a sign before the road turns, so its very easy to find.
Another option is the ICI-Sports shop in Harajuku. It is very close to the Omotesando exit in Harajuku station. Simply come out of the station at that exit, cross the street, turn too your left and walk a few feet the shop is at the bottom of an oddly shaped apartment building. If you exit from Harajuku station from the Takeshita Dori exit. Then cross the road and turn right and walk along for a couple of minutes and you will find it.
I hope this is useful to some of you. Happy camping in Japan.
